Why, oh why am I doing this?

Ahoy!
I've decided to create this blog to share tutorials, art and all things Gimp with world. I assume some of Earth's inhabitants like the idea of creating digital paintings using open source software and supporting it.
This blog won't be about how good is Gimp and how @$#!$ is Adobe Photoshop- both of those programs are great in many ways. Reason I chose Gimp in first place is simple- it's free. It's also good, the more I learn about the software and about digital painting the more I believe it can be tool equal to Photoshop in quality.
This blog will be my way of supporting community- through tutorials, art, tips and news from Gimp community.
Let's get started, I hope you're not asleep just yet ;)
